|UK MoT News|
From November 2012 vehicles made before 1960 will not need an MOT (Ministry of Transport) test at a garage.
Over the last few months there has been much debate about the merits of the above with such things as, 'there will be more accidents' - pre 1960's vehicles make up 0.6% of the total number of licensed vehicles on British roads but are involved in only 0.03% of road casualties and accidents.
My own feeling would have been to, perhaps, change the rules for pre 1960's vehicles from a test every year to a test every two years. I shall take my Austin Champ for inspection every two years and get a receipt that says, 'If this vehicle was subject to an MOT it would have passed the test.' My insurance broker says this is not a requirement for insurance.
